What matters to us is that students use their time in Japan to thoroughly learn the fundamentals of calligraphy and develop the skills to keep practicing for many years to come. The visa is simply one means of making that possible.

Study with aStudy with a Cultural Activities Visa
Our school is authorized by the Japanese government to sponsor the "Cultural Activities" visa. This visa allows you to reside in Japan for 6 months to 1 year specifically to study a traditional art form like Shodō.
Eligibility Requirements
While each application is unique, these are the general requirements for the Cultural Activities visa.
Age & Education
Applicants are generally expected to be over 18 and have completed high school.
Financial Proof
Proof of sufficient funds to cover tuition and living expenses for the duration of your stay is required.
Genuine Interest
A clear and genuine interest in learning Japanese calligraphy is essential for a successful application.

Our school submits your application to the Japanese Immigration Bureau to obtain your Certificate of Eligibility (CoE). Once issued, the CoE will be sent to you via email after tuition payment has been confirmed.

⚠️ Can I work part-time with a Cultural Activities visa?▾
No — the Cultural Activities visa does not permit any form of employment, including part-time work. This visa is strictly for pursuing your specified cultural study. Because you are not permitted to work, applicants must demonstrate sufficient financial capacity to fully support themselves throughout their stay in Japan — covering tuition, accommodation, living expenses, and return travel — without relying on income from employment. Immigration carefully reviews your financial documentation, and insufficient financial proof is one of the most common reasons for application denial.
